Visiting Wuhan?

Top 10 favorite things to do in Wuhan

Hello, my name is Anna, and I have been living in Wuhan since 2019.  Whether you are just visiting or living abroad in China, here are some of my favorite things to do while in Wuhan.

1. See the Yellow Crane Tower 黄鹤楼

The Yellow Crane Tower is one of the most recognizable buildings in Wuhan. It is a true touristy location and is considered one of the Four Great Towers of China. There are also nearby street vendors and shops to stop by when you are in the area.

2. Watch the Han Show 汉秀

The Han Show Theatre is an amazing Chinese water acrobatic show. It is ok if you do not understand Chinese, the performance speaks for itself. Because it is a water show, be prepared to get a little misted on!

3. Bike around East Lake (Donghu National Park) 东湖

If the weather is nice, I love going to East Lake and renting bikes with friends. The environment is very beautiful and biking around the lake with the tall trees is a wonderful weekend activity. There is also a man-made beach you can rent a hammock for the day to enjoy the sun and shallow water.

4. Try new restaurants with friends 探店

There are always new restaurants to try in Wuhan. I like to use the Chinese app Dazhong dianping 大众点评 or Xiaohongshu 小红书 (Little Red Book) to find the trending spots. There are even some restaurants that look over the Yangtze River. The night light show on the river can be fun to watch.

5. Go shopping at Han Street 汉街

Han Street, is a trendy shopping area and its buildings are inspired by European architecture. Here you can find a range of high-end shops and local Chinese name brands. It is a popular place for pictures with friends and wedding photo shoots.

6. Explore Tan Hua Lin Art Village 昙华林

Tanhualin 昙华林 is a more historical area where you can find cultural buildings that may be older than 100 years. This is a great spot to find smaller shops, street food, and even DIY art studios for pottery, tufting, painting and more!

7. Feed sea life at Polar Ocean World 极地海洋公园

If you have younger kids, this is a great spot for some family fun time. There are a wide range of sea animals to watch and even interact with. My personal favorite was seeing all the swimming fish in the underwater tunnels.

8. Smell flowers at the Botanical Garden 花博汇

The best time to go to the Botanical Gardens is in the springtime when the flowers are in full bloom. This location is sometimes visited by our elementary students for field trips. I personally enjoy visiting it to frolic in the flowers and go glamping with friends.

9. Swing clubs at Top Golf 拓高乐

Want a fun weekend activity with friends? Top Golf recently opened in Wuhan and is only a 10 minute drive from our school! With only 100 locations worldwide, it is great to see that Top Golf is in Wuhan.

10. Stroll down snack streets or a night market 逛夜市

Wuhan is known for many kinds of street food. My personal favorite is their roujiamo 肉夹馍 (al pastor pork in a bun), lamb on skewers or spicy squid. There are many snack streets and night markets so be prepared to make a quick pit stop before you leave Wuhan.
