Student-Led Conferences (SLCs)
Our fall Student-Led Conferences (SLCs) will be held on Thursday, October 30 from 13:00-17:00, and Friday, October 31 from 9:00–17:00.
SLCs are a powerful opportunity for students to take ownership of their learning by presenting their academic progress, goals, and reflections directly to their parents. Rather than traditional Parent-Teacher Conferences, SLCs place students at the center. For parents, it's a meaningful way to gain insight into their child’s growth and celebrate achievements in partnership with both the student and school.
Important Information:
- SLCs will take place over one and a half days.
- Each conference will last 25 minutes.
- ECC conferences will be conducted as home visits, with specific arrangements communicated directly by the homeroom teachers.
- Elementary parents should schedule a meeting with the homeroom teacher through PowerSchool.
- Secondary parents should only schedule a meeting with the advisory teacher through PowerSchool.
Registration for Student-Led Conferences open at 17:00 on Wednesday, October 22 and close at 22:00 on Monday, October 27. Parents need to log in to PowerSchool to sign up for appointments.
Instructions on how to register for an appointment in PowerSchool can be viewed here.
Notes:
- Secondary students are required to meet with their advisory teacher. Failure to attend the conference will be considered an absence.
- On the day of SLCs, Secondary parents and students who wish to meet with a subject teacher may check the teacher’s schedule (posted outside their classroom) and choose an available time. Each subject teacher meeting will last for 15 minutes.
- If you have any questions, please email our main office at wyisoffice@wyischina.com.
Parent workshops
We are excited to offer two parent workshops on the morning of Thursday, October 30. These workshops are a fantastic opportunity for parents to engage and learn from LifePlus staff. Please join us for one - or both - sessions while you wait for your child to be dismissed!
#1) Raising tomorrow’s leaders: how parents can empower their children's leadership journey
Join us for an engaging workshop to help parents nurture confidence, responsibility and leadership skills in their children. Together, we’ll explore practical strategies that prepare kids to lead with character in school and beyond.
Time: 8:30-9:45
Presenter: Dr. Chris Rehm
Location: Buffalo Room in PAB
Language: English with Chinese translation
#2) Bridging cultures: strengthening communication between home and school
In our diverse school community, communication can sometimes be shaped by different cultural expectations, languages and experiences. This workshop explores how cross-cultural differences impact the ways families and the school share information, express concerns, and build partnerships. Together, we’ll discuss common challenges, uncover strategies for clearer and more inclusive communication, and learn how to better support one another in helping every child thrive.
Time: 10:00-11:15
Presenter: Scott Shaw, Paul deMena + Lida Penn
Location: Buffalo Room in PAB
Language: English with Chinese translation
