SPECIAL APPRECIATION FOR OUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT

We now have approved applications for all WYIS to return to Wuhan. This has been a long and complicated process, which we could not have done without the help of local officials. We are very thankful for the tremendous support and effort of the many people who have helped WYIS staff return to China, including WEDZ, the city of Wuhan, and the Hubei Provincial governments. Specifically, we owe a debt of gratitude to Dong Yipin and Duan Hongwei with the Office of Foreign Cooperation and Exchange in the Wuhan Education Bureau; and Leng Rui with the Foreign Affairs Office of WEDZ.

MAP TESTING FOR FALL

Next week we’ll begin MAP® (Measures of Academic Progress ®) testing. We conduct MAP tests regularly throughout the year, which allows us to track students’ growth each time they test. To learn more about MAP, please read HERE or contact your child’s teacher.

• Week 1 (October 12-16): Grades 2 and 5
• Week 2 (October 19-23): Grades 3, 4, and Middle School
• Week 3 (October 26-30): EC5, Grade 1, High School

IMPORTANT INFO FOR GRADE 11 STUDENTS

Grade 11, it is time for the PSAT-NMSQT. What is this, you may wonder? It’s a test given to all 11th graders at WYIS during the regular school day. Test scores are used by scholarship programs, including the National Merit® Scholarship Program, to look for eligible students.

Students in Wuhan have been given the PSAT-NMSQT study booklet, which explains the purpose and offers a practice test. Please look through this to understand how to prepare for the test. The PSAT-NMSQT will take place at WYIS on Wednesday morning, October 14. The test will take about 3 hours.

Students should arrive at school as usual but will miss all morning classes. They should be prepared to talk with their teachers about what is expected and also have at least 8 hours of sleep and a healthy breakfast to prepare for the test. Questions? Please email student.services@wyischina.com.

INTERNATIONAL DAY

Last year International Day was in November 2019. This year we’re pushing it back a bit to give more of our community a chance to reunite on campus and plan well for this much-anticipated annual event.

International Day for this school year will be in April 2021.

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES PICKUP LOCATIONS

If your child is attending an after-school activity, please make note of where to pick them up after the club finishes:

• Elementary Table Tennis: Outside Performance Arts Building lobby.
• Ballet Club: Outside main door of the Athletics Building
• Soccer Club (Grades 3-5): Soccer field gate/entrance
• Newspaper Club: Main lobby of the Academic Building

LEAVING ITEMS IN THE LOBBY

Occasionally we are asked to keep items in our lobby to exchange from one parent to another. Unfortunately, we do not have the space to hold items for others in our lobby, and we prefer the responsibility to remain with the sender and receiver. If you have items you'd like to leave for another WYIS family, please make arrangements to directly pass those items along to them. Thank you!
