PTO WELCOME TEA – NOVEMBER 4

All WYIS parents are invited to join us on Wednesday, November 4, for our annual PTO Welcome Tea.

During the Welcome Tea, we'll share more about the year ahead, our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) and how you can get involved, plus you'll have great opportunity to connect with other parents and staff members at school.

CHARACTER & COSTUME DAY OCTOBER 30

October is always a fun month at WYIS, partly because we have a day to dress up and come to school in costume. Character & Costume Day is Friday, October 30. Below are specifics by department:

  • ELEMENTARY: CHARACTER DAY - Each elementary classroom has selected a theme that connects with their class. Teachers are sending home information to parents with more details. Themes by grade are noted here: EC3 Letters; EC4 Disney; EC5 Fairy Tales; G1 Super Heroes; G2 Animals; G3 Fall; G4 Book Characters; G5 Vocabulary.
  • SECONDARY: COSTUME DAY - Students can dress up in the costume of their choice. Secondary students have been given more details on what is and is not appropriate for Character & Costume Day.

Though wearing costumes at school is fun and different, we do have guidelines. General uniform rules for modesty and safety apply. Also, no scary costumes (no blood or gore, etc.) and no weapons.

If a student's costume or clothing is not appropriate, they will be sent home to change. Students who choose not to dress up must come to school wearing their regular school uniform or Spirit Wear Friday gear. Students are still expected to change into/out of their PE uniforms as usual, if October 30 is a PE day for them. Questions? Please contact your child's teacher.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES – NOVEMBER 13

Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) are scheduled for Friday, November 13 from 9-5 PM.

At PTC, parents are invited to meet with their child’s teachers to discuss student progress and goals. The time is planned to be reflective and action-oriented. Conferences can be an important part in the education process, giving parents time to ask questions and to work together with teachers.

Upper elementary and secondary students are welcome to attend conferences. They may benefit from the opportunity to discuss their progress in an open forum with teachers and parents. Lower elementary parents are asked to attend without their children to allow for the most effective time with teachers.

Registration for PTC will open be from November 2-9. This year, parents need to log into PowerSchool to sign up for appointments. Please ensure you have access to PowerSchool before November 2. More details and tutorials on how to access our new PTC registration system will be sent to you soon.

Thank you for your support as a parent/guardian. We look forward to meeting with you on conference day.

HS COURSE & COLLEGE PREP – A PARENT WORKSHOP

If you are the parent of a high schooler, this parent workshop is designed for you. High School Course & College Prep will give parents of High School students an understanding of the requirements and progression for graduation as well as the college preparation through standardized testing, AP courses, and college search and application.

Join us on Friday, November 6, from 2-3 PM in the Performing Arts Music Practice Room.

LIBRARY OPEN SOON FOR PARENTS

Starting on Monday, November 2, parents may once again go to the library first thing in the morning and after school. To go to the library, you must first sign in with the receptionist and receive a visitor pass. Please only use the main library doors, and sanitize your hands before entering. Elementary students may visit the library after school if they have their parent/guardian with them and their parent/guardian has received the official visitor pass from the receptionist.

Library hours for parents: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8-9:30 AM, 3-4 PM
Tuesday 8-9:30 AM

PARENT WORKSHOP – KOREAN COLLEGES

On Friday, October 30 from 10-11 AM, we will have a workshop for all parents of secondary students. In the workshop you will learn how to prepare for Korean colleges, the college application process, and review the Korean college admission results for the class 2020 from all iSC schools. Please plan to join us. This presentation will be in Korean only.

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES SURVEY

Please complete THIS brief survey about proposed after-school activities for quarter 2 and semester 2. The survey also welcomes your general feedback and suggestions about our after-school activities program. We value your opinion and would love to hear from you. The survey is open now through November 4.

SPIRIT WEAR FRIDAYS

Dress code on Fridays now includes Spirit Wear! Instead of students wearing the usual uniform polo, all students can now wear any WYIS logo wear top. This includes hoodies and t-shirts sold in our lobby, as well as athletics shirts or other official WYIS logo wear. Students can also wear nice jeans (modest, no holes) on Fridays only.

Go to the lobby today to get your Spirit Wear from Buffalo Goods. Our hoodies and t-shirts are all on sale! Get ready for a special sale for 11/11, too! (More info in the coming weeks.)
