INTERNATIONAL DAY

2.5 weeks until International Day 2019! We invite all our WYIS families to join us at International Day and celebrate in community the cultural diversity we have here at WYIS. Here's how you can be involved:

  • Wear clothes from either your own country/region or one you identify with
  • Make your favorite food to share from your country
  • Prepare some form of cultural entertainment that highlights your country and its culture.

If you have questions or want to get involved, contact your PTO Language Group Leader or International Day coordinators Dayana Sanchez or Kerryn Shaw.

T-SHIRT PRE-ORDERS FOR INTERNATIONAL DAY

We are taking pre-orders for our limited-edition International Day t-shirt. This t-shirt is a high-quality tee - heavyweight, pre-shrunk, 100% cotton - and is sized slightly bigger than usual Asian sizes. The color is aqua, a brilliant blue-green color, perfect for our custom International Day logo on the front and WYIS logo on the back.

The cost of the t-shirt is 70 RMB. T-shirts are available for a limited time, and they are only available by reserving yours here: T-SHIRT PRE-ORDER FORM. Sizes are available from 110 cm for children all the way through Adult XXXL.

The form will be open from November 6 through November 11. Shirts should arrive by Wednesday, November 20. By submitting a pre-order request, we are reserving your t-shirt for you to pick up and pay after it arrives. When you pick up your shirt, you can pay for it at the reception desk or at Finance.

FOOD DRIVE - STAMPEDE HUNGER IN WUHAN

Stampede Hunger Food Drive is a week-long event where all students and staff compete to see who can bring in the most food to help the hungry in Wuhan. The food drive begins on Wednesday, November 27 and ends on Wednesday, December 4. The competiion is based on classes bringing in packages of food.

A package consists of one bag of rice, one bottle of oil, and one pack of noodles. Each package should cost no more than 100 RMB. (Rice should be 5kg per bag, oil should be 1.8L per bottle, and noodles should be 1kg per bag. There are no brand or type requirement for any of these.)

There are three groups - ECC, Elementary, and Secondary - and one winner from each group. Classes compete against one another within each group.

  • For ECC and elementary, students should bring food to their classrooms.
  • For secondary, we will have stations set up at school entrances where students can drop off their food packages.

Event leaders will record amounts received each day. The winners in each group are simply those classes that bring in the most packages of food by December 4. Winners will receive a Super Ice-Cream Buffet during lunch time one day after the event. Again, there are three winners -- one from ECC, one from Elementary, and one from Secondary.

We are coordinating with a local food bank on this event, using their direction on how we can be most helpful.

ELEMENTARY FALL LEADERSHIP CAMP

This year the Elementary team is excited to announce our first Elementary Fall Leadership Camp on Tuesday, November 26. The camp is a one-day event that will be held during school hours.

The purpose of this camp is to help kids understand and own the leadership potential that we believe everybody is born with. Students will hear from inspirational leaders, engage in fun leadership and team-building activities, and learn how to apply leadership skills in their daily life. Get ready, kids. The camp is coming!

LIBRARY ON THE WEB

Our library now has a dedicated page on the WYIS website. This page has information about the library, what it offers, how to volunteer, and a link to our library catalog. The catalog is where you can see all the books that are available to you.

The library is a great resource. Your children use it every week in school. So can you! Check out the library page for more info.
