HOLIDAY CONTINGENCY PLANS

Here is an update on school health and safety for the upcoming holiday and colder weather months.

If you plan travel, please report your destination to the school office. This information will help us follow up with you should medium or high-risk areas change in the coming month. Government authorities ask families to remain in China, staying only in locations with international standard accommodations. Avoid large cities in higher-risk areas (e.g. currently Sichuan province, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang province, and Xinjiang) and remember to wear a protective mask when travelling.

Please travel with your computer, bank and insurance cards, and other necessary items in case you should need to work or study from your travel location.

If a student experiences COVID-related symptoms during the holiday, please report the symptoms and care received to the school office email (wyisoffice@wyischina.com). Quarantine at home or at a local hospital for 14 days and complete a COVID test. Once you can report negative test results to the school office, your child may return to school.

Students only need to complete a new COVID test after travelling if they experience COVID symptoms or if they travel to a medium- or high-risk area. We will keep you updated if we receive any changes to this procedure from the local government.

Scan the QR code here to help determine the risk level of your location. Thank you for your support!

PAJAMA DAY FOR ECC & ELEMENTARY

This Friday, December 18 will be a Pajama Day for ECC and Elementary students.

CHRISTMAS WEAR FOR SECONDARY

This Friday, December 18, secondary students may wear Christmas wear as a festive alternative to usual dress code.

As usual, our regular rules apply for modesty and safety (e.g. close toed shoes,). Students who choose not to wear pajamas (elementary only) or Christmas wear (secondary only) must wear their regular school uniform or WYIS spirit wear as usual.

CANVAS – ACCESS FOR PARENTS

Beginning January 4, 2021, all parents will have access to Canvas as a parent/observer. This will allow you, the parent/guardian, to log in to see your child’s class assignments, due dates, etc.

On or before January 4, you will receive emails with information on how to access Canvas as a parent/observer. It is not necessary for you to take any action on these emails or with Canvas unless you would like to, and this does not affect your child’s courses or learning at all. If you have questions, please contact Edgar Franks (edgar.franks@gmail.com) or June Lei (june.lei@wyischina.com).

LIBRARY & CHRISTMAS BREAK

For students in ECC5 - Grade 2, all library books will be due the last week before break (December 14-18) on their regular library day. Students will not be able to check out books over Christmas break. For students in Grade 3 and above, all library books checked out between now and December 18 will be due on Monday, January 4.

PRINCIPAL’S TEA

Our new principals Dr. Will Hatten (Elementary) and Dr. Chris Rehm (Secondary) have been in Wuhan for two weeks already! We are thankful for them and look forward to introducing them more to you.

In January, we will have a Principal’s Tea, where we invite all parents to a casual time to meet and visit with Dr. Hatten and Dr. Rehm, as well as Dr. Carlson. We will announce the specific date and time in our January 6 newsletter.
