Tech Tools for Learning

In order to respond to the requirements of local authorities, all schools in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone, which includes WYIS, are required to shift to online learning beginning Monday, March 7, 2022. We anticipate this time of online learning to be short—hopefully no longer than 1-2 weeks. If you were part of the WYIS community at the start of the 2021/2022 school year, you may remember that we started the school year online. This short period of online learning will be similar to that time. Here are a few key points:

  • ECC students are not required to attend WYIS online school.
  • All Elementary and Secondary students will be provided an Online Learning Resource Kit.
  • The first day of online learning is Monday, March 7. On March 7, students will NOT Zoom with teachers. Instead, students will work independently at home using classwork that teachers provide ahead of time. The first day students will Zoom with teachers for “synchronous” learning is Tuesday, March 8. By that time, all students will have their Online Learning Resource Kits.

Living in Wuhan and advancing online education through various seasons of COVID has taught us many things over the years, not the least of which are to always be prepared and to remain flexible. We look forward to learning and growing together with you through this short period of online learning.

If you are a WYIS family and need more information about our Online Learning Resource Kits or online learning, please contact your child's teacher. Parents, please let us know how we can support you during this period.

Canvas is a Learning Management System all classes use. Below is login and additional information. Please contact your child's teacher for questions about how his or her specific class is using Canvas.

  • All WYIS students now have a school-issued email and should choose Student Login.
  • Remember, the Canvas login is the same as the student email login. If you can log in to your WYIS student email account, you can log in to your Canvas account. If you have problems with your student email account or Canvas, email the IT helpdesk:

  • If you, as a student, are sharing a device that another student is using and accessing their WYIS email and Canvas accounts on, you MUST log out of both programs before logging in as another student. If you do not, that will probably cause you problems.

Students - HERE are step-by-step instructions for logging into Canvas.

  • All parents have access to Canvas as a parent/observer for their child's classes. This allows you, the parent/guardian, to log in to see your child’s class assignments, due dates, etc. It is not necessary for you to take any action on Canvas, unless you would like to, and observing your child's courses does not affect their courses or learning in any way. If you have questions, please contact Edgar Franks ( or June Lei ( This document also provides instructions and help for logging in as a parent/observer to see your child's courses.
  • If you have more than one child accessing their WYIS email and Canvas accounts on one device, you MUST log out of both programs before logging in as another student. If you do not, that will probably cause you problems.

Parents - HERE is more information about Canvas.
