The holidays are here! It’s the season of spreading love, exchanging gifts, and giving thanks. As a way to give back to the community during this Christmas season, WYIS secondary students are leading a toy, book, and clothing drive.
Led by Grade 10’s Jean L., “Hope for the Holidays” is a student-led initiative that aims to support people in our local community as well as in the Philippines. As a testament to our school’s mission, students are given the opportunity to serve their community through benefiting families in need during this difficult time.
From December 7-16, students will collect new and gently used toys, summer clothes, and books in boxes located in each classroom. Every class will have a target goal to achieve, and if the class reaches their set goal by December 16, they will be rewarded a prize party held in January. Parents and staff are also encouraged to donate to the drive.
We hope everyone will participate in the “Hope for the Holidays” drive. This student-led project is the perfect opportunity for students to become globally-minded individuals with an emphasis on giving back to the community. We hope to see you fill up the collection boxes!
This project is a High School Portfolio Builder. We encourage secondary students to get involved outside the classroom and take initiative on projects like these. Leading projects, participating in service trips and extracurricular activities, serving, tutoring, volunteering, etc. – these all contribute to well-rounded students with strong student portfolios. WYIS offers all these opportunities for a strong student portfolio, and our College & Career department assists students with their portfolios to help them prepare for university life and beyond.
