School Updates - Jan. 25

WYIS and the Wuhan Health Situation

Dear WYIS Community,

The Wuhan municipal government announced that on the morning of January 23, public transport facilities would be temporarily closed. It is not clear how long this situation will last and to what extent these places will be closed. WYIS has been in contact with the local British and US consulates, the Wuhan Education Bureau, and several other sources to actively seek and await further information. U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a Watch Level 2 Alert (Practice Enhanced Precautions) for an ongoing outbreak of pneumonia.

WYIS School Start
WYIS will not resume school on February 3, as originally planned. School start date will be delayed at least one week. We will continue to monitor news reports and work with the Wuhan Education Bureau in order to offer more information when it becomes available. We will inform the WYIS community once clear and reliable information is available. Once we have a confirmed school start date, we will let you know through our regular school communication channels: WeChat, email, and our website.

WYIS and iSC Events
All school and iSC events will be under review and modified as necessary to comply with the recommendations of the governmental and health agencies advising us. Our next scheduled event, The VEX IQ Challenge Middle School Robotics Tournament, has now been cancelled. This tournament was scheduled to be held at WYIS on February 8, 2020. We will advise you if there are changes to other future events.

Health Recommendations
If you are in Wuhan and you feel sick, please do the following:
• Seek medical care right away. Before you go to a doctor’s office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.
• Avoid contact with others.
• Don’t travel while sick.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing/sneezing.
• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

If you have concerns or questions, please contact me directly.

Sincerely,

Erika Carlson, Head Principal

Erika Carlson, 校长
