I hope you are keeping well as we support the local authorities’ efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the city.
As a school, we have been closely observing developments and working with our local authorities to ensure that we provide a safe learning environment for our students. The health and well-being of our community are of paramount importance to us.
As requested by the Education Bureau, we will not begin in-person on Tuesday but instead we are adjusting the 2021-22 school year to begin online. Additionally, this means the in-person events of Open House and New Family Orientation scheduled for tomorrow and Monday are being moved and modified to meet this request. While teaching online is different from teaching in person, we know that our teachers can achieve academic progress with your children under this alternate format. We consider this a temporary transition and hope to return to school in person soon.
To facilitate this learning, we will be preparing welcome packets, books, and devices (as appropriate) for pickup from the school next week. This will be followed by Virtual Orientation and Open House on Thursday, August 12, and the first day of school on Friday, August 13. We will communicate more details by Monday.
This is certainly not how I had imagined the start of the 2021-22 school year and my first year as your Head of School. However, having worked with our teachers to improve our technology capability and online instruction, I know they can advance learning through this alternate means and it is best to start the learning as soon as possible.
I welcome the day where we can all be in person together. Until that time, we will continue to support the efforts of stopping the spread of the virus so that normality can resume again as soon as possible.
