PTO WELCOME TEA

We invite all WYIS parents to join us on Friday, October 22, for our annual PTO Welcome Tea.

If you've joined our Welcome Tea in the past, you might be interested to know this one is planned differently. You'll have great opportunities for connection with one another, but we'll also spend time exploring our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) more -- how and why PTO began at WYIS, how it's structured and working now, and great plans PTO has in store for the future.

We'll also hear from Dr. Rehm, school leaders, and PTO leaders, all while enjoying a casual tea break together.

Join us at the Welcome Tea to help us build a stronger community. The Tea is from 1-3 in the Performing Arts Building lobby.

UPCOMING ONLINE UNIVERSITY SESSIONS

If you have an older student and are considering universities for their future, please spend some time visiting university websites to learn what they have to offer. Here are some tips to make your online browsing more successful:

  • Make sure you are visiting the undergraduate section, then explore the academic programs and admission requirements.

  • If you are looking at a school in a country where you are not a citizen, make sure you look in the international section.

  • Look for online information sessions, which many universities offer. The list below is only a small sample of upcoming events. Click the links below for more information. (In most cases, students or parents must first register to attend. Please note, these are not private sessions for WYIS.)

  • Duke Kunshan University: Thursday, October 21 at 7 PM (China Standard Time)

  • University of Notre Dame: Sunday, October 24 at 8 PM (CST)

  • The University of Hong Kong: Saturday, October 30 (Must register to see the time)

  • The University of Sydney: Sunday, November 7 from 1-3 PM (CST)

  • National University of Singapore: Saturday, November 13 at 9:30 AM (CST)

Please check other university websites for their scheduled online events. As always, contact our College and Career Counselor (irene.kim@wyischina.com) if you have more questions or would like help with your child’s future educational goals.

SPIRIT WEEK

Spirit Week is next week: October 25-28. We encourage all our students to dress up in the day's theme to have fun and show their school spirit. Below are themes for each day:

  • Monday: Pajama Day - Wear school-appropriate pajamas to school
  • Tuesday: Color Day - Wear as many colors as possible, or maybe only just ONE color.
  • Wednesday: National Pride Day - Wear something from your country that makes you proud.
  • Thursday: Character Day – Dress up as a character from one of your favorite books or movies.

If a student chooses not to dress in a theme for the day, that's no problem, but they must wear their appropriate school or PE uniform for the day. Have fun with this, students, and show your WYIS school spirit!

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) will be held Friday, October 29 from 9-5. Registration is now open. View the complete PTC announcement here.

All conferences are in person at WYIS. At this time, we do not offer an option for meeting online.

Please note: PTC is a day off of school for students. Parents, if you are not able to get the appointment time you need with your child's teacher, please email them separately to schedule a time to meet. If you would like to book an appointment with a staff member who is not on your booking list, please email the school office at wyisoffice@wyischina.com.

UNIFORM FOR COLDER WEATHER

As temperatures drop outside, students may choose to wear layers under or over their uniform. Below is a reminder of what layers are approved. For the complete uniform policy, please view our Parent-Student Handbook.

LAYERS UNDER UNIFORM CLOTHING
Students may choose to wear layers under their uniforms (both regular and P.E.) for warmth or for other reasons. If a student chooses to wear layers under his or her uniform that are visible outside the uniform (leggings under shorts, for example), the layers must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Layers must be solid colored and either navy, grey, black, or white.
  • Any logo, words, or other motifs must collectively be the same size or smaller than a student ID card (8.5cm x 5.5 cm).

OUTERWEAR
Students may wear their choice of outerwear to school to protect from cold temperatures. Inside the school building, however, students may only layer over their uniforms with official WYIS outerwear. Any visible outer layers (vests, jackets, etc.) must be the WYIS uniform or outerwear.

PARENTS IN THE LIBRARY

Parents are now allowed and welcome to come to the library! If you would like to visit the library during our parent hours, please sign in at the reception desk and receive a visitor pass. Our parent hours are: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 7:50-8:20 and 3:00-4:00. Tuesdays from 7:50-8:20 and 3:00-3:20.

MAP TEST REPORTS

We have finished our fall session of MAP testing. Other schools in our iSC district will continue MAP testing until October 22. Once all iSC schools have completed their testing, we will be able to run our MAP reports so you can see results for your child. We will notify you when the reports are ready.

If you have questions about MAP Testing, please contact your child's teacher or MAP Coordinator Edgar Franks (edgar.franks@wyischina.com).

PICTURE DAY GROUP PHOTOS

Picture Day was scheduled to take place on Tuesday & Wednesday of this week. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we were not able to take pictures on Tuesday. Wednesday's individual photos are taking place as planned, and we've gotten lots of great photos of our students and staff.

We will reschedule a day for group photos and will communicate the date ahead of time through our newsletter and PTO group, so parents can plan appropriately. Thank you for your flexibility!
