News & Events at WYIS

You are invited to the WYIS Fine Arts Showcase 2019. There will be two separate performances:

  • The Secondary Fine Arts Showcase will be on Friday, May 3, at 6:30PM.
  • The Elementary Fine Arts Showcase will be on Friday, May 10, at 8:30AM.

The 2019 WYIS Fine Arts Showcase entitled “We Are the World” represents a celebration and expression of us, as people of the world. The world doesn’t always fit inside national borders, educational circles, or socioeconomic classes. Instead, we - along with our individual nationalities, cultures, languages, passions, abilities, values, appearances, experiences, and dreams - are the world. Each person was created intentionally with purpose, and we all have the ability to make a difference for good.

Through this showcase, we hope to use art and music to express our uniqueness and to share our individual dreams of how we can change the world. Standing together while celebrating our individuality is one small way we can begin to make the world a better place.

If you are the parent of an elementary student, please read this letter containing what to wear and other important performance information.

On Friday, May 3, Students Services will present Parent Workshops from 2-3 pm on the topics of Child & Adolescent Development. There will be separate workshops that focus on the needs elementary students and secondary students.

  • ELEMENTARY: This workshop will focus on how children develop emotionally and academically during the early and elementary years. Parents will gain better understanding of how WYIS teachers strive to reach students in age-appropriate ways, and we will provide examples on how parents can also use these concepts. All of this leads to better engagement with children for deeper learning rather than momentary compliance or simple memorization.
  • SECONDARY: This workshop will focus on the changes our Middle School and High School students move through on their path to adulthood. We will offer tips on how to better understand and support the journey from adolescence to independence, as well as healthy communication methods.

Translations will be made available according to need. Locations: 1st floor conference room, 1st floor cafeteria, 5th floor cafe space

Speakers: Mr. Warren MacLeod (Secondary - in English, with Chinese translation), Mrs. Kaylin Koh (Elementary - in English), Mrs. Sophia Chan (Elementary - in Chinese)

Please scan the QR Code to sign up for the workshop. Registering helps us plan for space and translation needs.
