HEALTH CONCERNS IN WUHAN

You have probably heard health concerns over a new pneumonia-type of virus recently found in Wuhan. We are not aware of anyone in the WYIS community connected with a pneumonia case. Our school nurse, Mrs. Alpha Balusdan, is leading efforts on our campus to check student and staff temperatures and to ensure that all classrooms and common areas are given extra cleaning. We are also monitoring all cases of respiratory illnesses.

We encourage you to see a doctor if anyone in your family has fever or other head, nose, or respiratory symptoms. Please also remind your children to take extra care during this season by regularly washing their hands with soap and warm water and using hand sanitizer as needed.

Please note our regular policy on illnesses: If your child is experiencing fever (above 37.5 Celsius), unexplained rashes, diarrhea, vomiting, and body pain, please don’t send them to school. Your child can only come to school if the symptoms have been gone for 24 hours without medicine to relieve the symptoms.

We will continue to monitor news and updates from local authorities, and we will keep you updated as necessary.

LAOS FUNDRAISER: T-SHIRTS & BACKPACKS

The Laos Team is now selling long-sleeved t-shirts and drawstring backpacks to raise money for the Laos Service Trip in January. All profit from sales will help cover expenses for students on this trip.

Ddrawstring backpacks are 35 RMB each. T-Shirts are 130 RMB each. We do not have the t-shirts and bags yet in school, but we are taking pre-orders. Click here to place your pre-order. We are taking orders now through February 16, 2020.

Note: Prices listed are minimum donation prices. If you would like to pay more for your t-shirt or bag to help raise more money for this service trip, the team will gratefully accept that gift from you. You may also contribute funds directly by going to the Cashier desk on the first floor any time during regular cashier hours. Please tell them your donation is for the Laos trip.

More about the Laos Service Trip: Every year, iSC sponsors an international service trip for students in grades 10-12. These service trips encourage students to grow in their experiences and personal character while serving impoverished families in international locations. This school year's trip will be on January 19-29, 2020, in Luang Prabang, Laos. Students and staff will work with local people in Laos to support the community in a way that responsibly encourages future growth of that community.

When registering for an activity, please keep the following in mind:

  • Desktop/laptop works best. The PowerSchool APP is not reliable when registering for activities.
  • Firefox and Chrome are the best browsers to use. Internet Explorer is not reliable when registering for activities.

In order to give students a fair chance to participate, elementary students can only register for one after-school activity per quarter. However, if there are still spots available by 9AM on Tuesday, January 14, students can sign up for any available spot in any of the activities. Choose wisely, and please only sign up for activities that your child will definitely attend.

FRIDAY DRESS CODE

Earlier this year, we announced that secondary students could wear blue jeans on Fridays, along with their usual uniform polo.

With the beginning of semester two, we have expanded the dress code for Fridays. Instead of their usual uniform polo, all students can now wear any WYIS logo wear top. This includes hoodies and tshirts sold in our lobby, as well as athletics shirts or other official WYIS logo wear.

LEAVING ITEMS IN THE LOBBY

From time to time we are asked to keep items in our lobby to exchange from one parent to another. We love to see our community connecting like this, but we kindly ask that you don't use our school lobby to do so. We do not have the space to hold items for others, and we prefer the responsibility to remain with the sender and receiver. If you have items you'd like to leave for another WYIS family, please make arrangements to directly pass those items along to them. Thank you!

PHOTO ALBUMS

After every event at WYIS, we post a photo album on our website. Albums are listed on our website under News & Events, then Albums. To see photos from our latest event, A Community Christmas, click here.
