News & Events at WYIS

This Friday, we will have a meeting for parents of high schoolers who are interested in learning more about standardized tests (SAT, PSAT, etc.). If you have questions about standardized testing and are interested in attending, please join us. The meeting will be Friday, August 30, beginning at 1pm in the WYIS 1F boardroom. The meeting will end before 2pm, when the PTO Welcome Tea begins.

On Wednesday, September 4, our IT team and Registrar will take fingerprint scans of all students. A fingerprint scan will replace the need to scan a student ID card in the lunch line, making the lunch line process go much more quickly. In the future, the fingerprint may also be used to check out library books and secure technology resources.

How does it work? When we scan a fingerprint, the fingerprint device converts the scanned print into an encrypted string of information. Then we link that information from the scan with the student's name and ID card number. From that point on, the fingerprint acts the same as the card. The fingerprint scan itself is encrypted and stored on our own WYIS server. It will not be stored or shared outside our school. Our staff and new students have already been fingerprinted and are using this new system, as are some of our other iSC schools.

If you would prefer your child NOT be fingerprinted, please fill out this brief form. If you do not fill out the form, your child will be fingerprinted on September 4.

If you have questions, please contact our Registrar.

We've updated our uniform policy to give you an extra option for uniform bottoms. Instead of elementary and secondary wearing separate colors for bottoms, now all students can either wear tan (light brown) or navy (dark blue) bottoms with their uniform top. (No blue jeans for secondary.) There is no change for the PE uniform.

Our 2019/2020 Parent-Student Handbook has these updated changes and the complete uniform policy.

Secondary students may now wear blue jeans on Fridays, along with their usual uniform polo. In keeping with the general principles of our dress code, jeans cannot be ripped, frayed, or have words or motifs on them.

We are unable to add after-school activities to the mobile PowerSchool apps. Parents and students will have to use the PowerSchool website to view and register for after-school activities.

Elementary students will only be allowed to join 2 after-school activities each semester. This will give other children the opportunity to join an after-school activity as well. If there are still spots available one week after registration begins, or after September 4,then registration will open for children to join more than 2 activities. In this situation, parents will need to email Mr. Householder your child’s name, grade, and the exact name of the club so that he can manually add your child to the activity.

Quarter 1 (Q1) after-school activity registration start TODAY, August 28. Q1 Activities include the following:

  • CrossFit Kids (EC4-5)
  • Art (Grades 1-3)
  • Badminton (Grades 2-3)
  • The Voice of China (Grades 2-5)
  • Choir (Grades 3-5)
  • Soccer (Grades 3-5)
  • After-School Band (Grade 5, Ms. McCutchan)

  • Ukulele (Grades 6-8)
  • After-School Band (Grades 6-12)
  • Studio Ghibli Animation (Grades 6-12)
  • Mural Art (Grades 6-12)

If you have questions or ideas regarding after-school activities, please contact After-School Activities Coordinator, Aaron Householder.

This Friday, August 30, WYIS will host a PTO Welcome Tea from 2-3 in the WYIS Cafeteria.

We encourage all parents to join us at the Welcome Tea to hear more about the PTO, connect with one another in community, and learn more information about how to get involved at WYIS.

Save the date for the WYIS Talent Show! This year's show will be at 6:30 on Wednesday, September 25.

Talent Show is for students in grades 4-12 and is based on audition only. Parents of students in grades 4-12 should have already received an email with information about audition times.

Report cards are designed to keep you informed about your child's academic performance. Each student has an official report card prepared for them from the 2018/2019 school year. We will be sending it home with students on Thursday, August 29. Please check with your child about the report card and make sure you receive it.

If you have any questions, please contact our Registrar, Agnes Liu.
