After-School Activities for Quarters 1 & 2 of the 2021/2022 school year are noted below. Please scroll all the way to the bottom for more details and info, as well. Questions? Contact Ms. Susie Xiong, After-School Activities Coordinator.


ECC Chinese Poems Club

Sponsors: Ms. Tian; Ms. Watson
Dates & time: 3:30 – 4:15 on Wednesdays, September 22–December 15
Parent pickup location: Performance Arts Building
Description: Students will learn ancient Chinese poems from ancient dynasties, such as Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The poems that they might learn are 《三字经》,《静夜思》,《春晓》,《池上》,《登鹳雀楼》,《题西林壁》, or《早发白帝城》. They will interact with the poems by singing, acting, and reciting. Please note that it is only for Chinese native speakers and bus is not available after the activity ends. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 6 students register/join.

EC5 – G1 The RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) Ballet Club

Sponsors: Ms. Tang (outside ballet instructor); Ms. Ding (staff sponsor); Lily R. (student volunteer)
Dates & Time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Mondays, September 20–December 13
Parent pickup location: Main door of the gym
Description: Students will learn basic ballet techniques and variations with the RAD syllabus. Students will also enjoy the dance by using different dance pros and dancing stories. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 6 students register/join.

EC4-EC5 Tee Ball Club

Sponsor: Mrs. Huang (staff sponsor); two outside coaches
Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Wednesdays; September 22–December 15
Parent pickup location: soccer field
Description: The goal of this curriculum is to let all kids understand basic rules of baseball, have fun, get interested in playing baseball, hit the ball, run in correct body movement and complete a formal match. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 10 students register/join.

EC5-G3 Latin & Ballet Enlightenment Class

Sponsor: Ms. Xu (outside instructor); Ms. Gui (staff sponsor)
Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Thursdays, September 23– December 16
Parent Pickup location: Main door of the gym
Description: Students will learn basic techniques of Latin & ballet dance. They will also work on improving their body flexibility. This club will be taught by Ms. Emily Xu, same as last year’s ballet club. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 6 students register/join.

Elementary Jazz Dance Club

Sponsor: Ms. Liu (staff sponsor); plus an outside jazz instructor
Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Wednesdays, September 22– December 15
Parent Pickup location: Main door of the gym
Description: In Jazz dance club, students can meet new friends with similar interests and passions. Dancing allows your child to work with others, be as one team, grow and fail together. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 8 students register/join.

Elementary Table Tennis Club

Sponsor: Coach Yang & Coach Huang (outside coaches); Mr. Xie (staff sponsor)
Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Mondays, September 20– December 13
Parent pickup location: Performing Arts Building
Description: Students will be divided into two classes: beginning class and intermediate class. They will learn different stances and four fundamental strokes: forehand drive, backhand drive, forehand push, and backhand push. They will also practice footwork, rally, and play offense after a rally. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 10 students register/join.

G1-2 Soccer Club

Sponsor: Coach Xu; Coach Liu (parent volunteer)
Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Tuesdays, September 28– December 14
Parent pickup location: Soccer field
Description: Students will improve the ball control, practice passing, dribbling, shooting, and playing defense in one-on-one and two-on-two. Students will also learn how to play as a team through games. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 10 students register/join.

G1-2 Basketball Club

Sponsor: Coach Colp (parent volunteer)
Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Thursdays, September 23–December 16
Parent Pickup location: Main door of the gym
Description: Students will have fun learning beginner skills for basketball. They will learn to dribble, pass, shoot, and play defense! Students must wear appropriate sneakers. Bring a water bottle and bring a positive attitude! Please report any health issues or limitations to the activity leader.

G2-3 Tee Ball Club

Sponsor: Ms. Xiong (staff sponsor); two outside coaches
Date and time: 3:30-4:50 on Fridays, September 24–December 17
Parent pickup location: Soccer field
Description: The goal of this curriculum is to let all kids understand basic rules of baseball, have fun, get interested in playing baseball or softball, hit the ball skillfully, throw the ball accurately, catch the ball, and be competitive in the formal match. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 10 students register/join.
NOTE: Please be mindful when you sign up for this activity that a bus for Friday will be provided only if we meet the minimum number of riders. Two days before the activity starts, Ms. Xiong will send an email about whether or not we will be able to provide a late bus on Fridays

G3-5 Soccer Club

G6-10 Writing Workshop

Sponsor: Ms. Johnson; Ms. Carter
Date and time: 3:25 – 4:40 on Wednesdays, September 22–October 13
Description: This workshop is a fun, empowering approach to creative writing. Students will need to bring their laptop to each class.

Secondary Badminton Club

Sponsor: Coach Han (parent volunteer); Coach Xiong
Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Tuesdays & Thursdays, September 23–December 16
Description: Students will be divided into intermediate class and advanced class. The intermediate class will have training on Tuesdays and the advanced class will have training on Thursdays. We hope that through a long-term training, we can build a school team that can participate in local or around-China competitions. During the training, we will start with the most basic techniques and footwork training. When the players' basic skills meet certain requirements, we will start some fixed route (tactical) practice. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 6 students register/join.

Secondary Table Tennis Club

Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Wednesdays, September 22–December 15
Description: Students will practice footwork for long and short topspin, serve and receive a backspin serve, and practice playing rally. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 6 students register/join.

WYIS CrossFit Teens

Sponsor: Coach Dan; Coach Tsai
Date and time: 3:30 – 4:40 on Thursdays, September 23– December 16
Description: CrossFit Teens is a strength and conditioning program designed for 13-17 years old athletes and non-athletes alike. Our program will increase physical competence in 10 fitness domains: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy. In addition, we aim to boost self-esteem and confidence within our teens. We want to give them the strength, both physically and mentally, to tackle any obstacle thrown their way inside or out of the gym. Workouts are scalable for all individuals. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 6 students register/join.

Secondary Jazz Dance Club

Date and time: 3:30-4:50 on Fridays, September 24–December 17
Parent Pickup location: Main door of the gym
Description: The goal of this club is to offer students an improvised and energetic style of exercise that allows them to physically express themselves through a range of routines. Please note that this activity will only take place if at least 8 students register/join.

Secondary Art Club

Sponsor: Ms. Yang & Mrs. Sokol (staff sponsor); Jenny Kim & Sally Kim (student volunteer)
Date and time: 3:25 – 4:40 on Tuesdays, September 7 – September 30
Description: After-school art clubs provide a comfortable and practical environment for students to become more interested in art. It offers more opportunity for students to be interested in art-related jobs in the future. It also helps students to expresses themselves through art and supports active exchanges of interests among the students.

High School Newspaper Club

Sponsor: Ms. Thornton (staff sponsor); So Mang Park (student volunteer)
Date and time: Tutorial block on Fridays, August 25, 2021 – January 1, 2022
Description: Students will write articles, draw comics, and edit newspapers. Students are free to choose topics they want to write about. Topics can vary from school news to upcoming movies all the way to interesting science discoveries. The students are expected to turn in assigned work on time.

Middle School Soccer Sports

Coaches: Coach Younker, Coach Xiong, Coach Shaw, Coach Cayetano, & Coach Fennamore
Date and time: 3:25-4:40 on Mondays and Thursdays, September 9 – November 4
Description: Students will learn basic rules and skills in soccer, such as ball control, dribbling, shooting in the goal, passing, goal keeping, etc. Students will also learn how to play different positions and work as a team.

High School Volleyball Sports

Coaches: Coach Goff, Coach Fenamma, Coach Cayetano, Coach Fei, & Coach Vincent
Date and time: Mondasy & Wednesdays 3:25 - 4: 40; Fridays 3:25 - 4: 50. Some Saturdays
Description: Volleyball high school sports can be a great experience for student-athletes to learn and develop knowledge on how to play the different skills at a different position in the game. Students’ participation will also help our students develop the iSC 9 characters, get to know other students, and acquire good values such as leadership and teamwork. WYIS volleyball sport team also offer students an opportunity to represent our school on local games, the ACAMIS league and the iSC tournament. There will be two optional practice on Saturdays: one is CrossFit training from 11:00 to 12 noon; the other one is volleyball game practice from 1:00 to 4:00. Bus is not available on that day.
NOTE: Please be mindful when you sign up for this activity that a bus for Friday will be provided only if we meet the minimum number of riders. Two days before the activity starts, Ms. Xiong will send an email about whether or not we will be able to provide a late bus on Fridays.

Important Info

  • Registration opens on Thursday, September 9, at 8 PM and closes on September 26, at 11:59 PM.
  • Register through your Parent Portal on PowerSchool.
  • In order to allow students a fair chance at registration, students can only register for no more than two activities at a time. If there are any openings remaining on September 13, parents may register their child for more than two activities from September 13 - 26.
  • Please note that once you sign up for an activity for your child, you have the first week of the activity as the hesitation period to decide whether you would like your child continue attending the activity. After the first week, the finance department will deduct the activity fee from your child’s lunch account and will not return the fee if your child withdraws from the activity. Places are limited in each activity, so please choose wisely.
  • Please note that students and parents need to sign an after-school activities agreement to be able to join the activity starting from this school year. Students will get a hard copy from the activity sponsors during the first week of the activity or you can print it out HERE (Chinese). Students who fails to turn in the agreement before the second week of the activity, he or she will not be allowed to participate in the activity.
